From the Secretariat
INPIM is a non-profit organization facilitating participatory irrigation managemen through the exchange of people, ideas, and training materials. INPIM is registered in Washington, DC, USA. The office of the INPIM secretariat is at the Economic Development Institute (EDI) of the World Bank, in the division of Environment and Natural Resources (EDIEN). Membership in INPIM is by application. A form should be inserted in this newsletter, but if not, please contact the INPIM coordinator. Subscription fees for individuals are $10 per year or $30 for lifetime.
The past six months have been the start-up phase of INPIM. We have seen a very strong and broad-based interest in the network. Application forms have come in from consultants, irrigation agencies, donor agencies, and academics from around the world. We will issue a membership directly with the next newsletter. Perhaps the most encouraging development has been the creation of two national PIM networks: India-PIM, with a secretariat in the central Ministry of Water Resources, and PANPIM in Pakistan, with the International Irrigation Management Institute of Pakistan office serving as secretariat. National networks are also planned for Morocco and Indonesia.
Here in Washington, there are several people who are devoting part of their time to keep INPIM running, in addition to their normal duties at the Economic Development Institute. The key persons are listed below by INPIM position, name, and EDI position:
Chairman Hatsuya Azumi (Chief, EDIEN Division)Executive Secretary Peter Sun (Consultant, EDIEN)Coordinator/Editor David Groenfeldt (Consultant, EDIEN)Executive Assistant Russell Kupersmith (Consultant, EDIEN)
