Email Conference on Irrigation Management Transfer

During the months of April and May, INPIM will help to coordinate an email conference on PIM and Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT). The conference will be managed by Dr. Douglas Vermillion, and is supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The twin purposes of the conference are: 1) to enhance irrigation management transfer (IMT) programs and 2) to enhance sector reforms of the support system for locally managed irrigation systems. The ``support system" includes property rights, legislation, subsidies, credit, extension, technical consultation, marketing infrastructure, regulation, and so on. Enhancing IMT and the post-transfer support system will be achieved through dissemination of information, experiences and viewpoints about IMT programs and related reforms in support systems.

The objectives of the conference are to pool together and disseminate information, accounts of experiences, issues, ideas and viewpoints of people worldwide who are or have been involved in irrigation management transfer policies and programs or in the public or private sector support system for irrigated agriculture.
