Note of Welcome

In this inaugural issue of the INPIM Newsletter, I am happy to extend both a personal and official welcome to this new organization. Participatory irrigation management may be the single most important step that governments can take to improve the productivity and sustainability of irrigation systems. The role of INPIM in facilitating the exchange of ideas, experts, and training materials among countries implementing PIM programs represents a fresh approach to transferring development experience.

The philosophy of mutual self-help and learning which INPIM embodies has a tremendous potential for stimulating positive change, and I am sure we will see a real impact from INPIM's work. The Economic Development Institute (EDI) is proud to serve in the capacity of secretariat for INPIM during the initial period of its establishment. We are offering INPIM the use of our office facilities and providing some staff time. But the real work of INPIM will be done by you, the members.
