Pennar Basin Workshop

nair River has several dams of which Sathanoor Dam is the biggest and down below there are several anicuts including Tirukovilur anicut. TVNN organized workshop for the farmers of Cuddalore and Villupuram Districts on 26.06.04 at Villupuram. The workshop drew good attention from farmers’, department officials including Chief Engineers. The workshop was more on interactive manner in which farmers and department officials shared their experiences and views on water management and WUAs.

Mr. Meyyappan, Special Chief Engineer, WRO, PWD, Cuddalore, Mr. Deivasikamani, Mr. Shanmugam, Executive Engineer from Villupuram, Executive Engineer from Viruthachalam and other PWD officials welcomed TVNNs efforts in promoting farmers network and appealed to farmers to involve in water management effectively. Mr. R. Ramasamy – President, JalaSpandana, Mr. Kasiannan- EC. Member of JalaSpandana spoke on the needs of the participatory management effectively. Representatives of TVNN Mr. AVS. Velumayil – President, Mr. K. Balachander Secretary, Mr. D. Muthukumarasamy – Treasurer, Mrs. Baby Kalvirayan – Vice president, Mr. R. Eswaramoorthy – Vice president and Mr. Samidurai – Joint Secretary explained the activities of TVNN.

Mr. Ayyangar, Villupuram district, and Mr. Shankar, WUA Presidents, Villupuram district Mr. Ramanujam, and Mr. Rajasekaran, WUA Presidents, Cuddalore district and others presented their experiences and generated discussion among the participants. At the end of the discussion, unanimous decision was taken to form districts level committee for Villupuram and Cuddalore to strengthen TVNNs activities.
