Water Policies

As the National Water Policy is published in English and many farmers in the States, particularly in South India are unable to read and digest the same. Thus, JalaSpandana and TVNN made an attempt to translate the National Water Policy in Tamil and distribute it to farmers. The Tamil Version is translated and circulated to network members. Those who want to obtain copy of the Tamil version are requested to approach TVNN office.

Water Conservation Efforts

'More Water Means Less Yield': SRI experiences in LBP command area

TVNN with the support of JalaSpandana in association with Organic Farmers Federation of Erode (OFFER) and Lower Bhavani Project Farmers Federation (LBPFF) undertook campaign on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation in LBP command area. The campaign includes creating awareness, demonstration, distributing pamphlets, documenting farmers' experiences in SRI, etc. The campaign received good response from the farmers of the region particularly with the backdrop of water scarcity and the pending water conflict between old and new ayacut of LBP in High Court of Tamil Nadu. In this season about 150 farmers have adapted to SRI cultivation in the LBP command area. Mr. Arachalur R. Selvam, Erode, JalaSpandana member is the fore frontier in this SRI experiment and experiences.

Newsletters

TVNN decided to shoulder the responsibility of publishing a Quarterly bilingual Newsletter in Tamil and English with the title “NEERVALAM” meaning Water resources, to share the knowledge system and stimulate discussions on water resources. The first issue of NEERVALAM was published for the period April – June 2004 and subsequently for the period July – September and October – December was published periodically.
