Sriramsagar Project Level Workshop

JalaSpandana – South India farmers’ organization for water management had good contacts in the command area and it was convenient to organize project level workshop at Choppadandi mandal of Karimnagar District. SRSP has about 10 lakh acres of command area localised for irrigated dry crops only. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr Sana Maruthi, MLA of Choppadandi constituency and former Chief Engineer of SRSP, Irrigation & Command Area Development, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

The tail end deprivation and head reach cultivating paddy in violation to cropping pattern, the attitude of new government towards WUAs and water management in SRSP and project level issues were discussed at length. Mr. Sana Maruthi appealed farmers to develop in to strong network and start working on policy issues. He clarified that WUAs in Andhra Pradesh are formed under legislation and any major changes including its discontinuity is possible with an enactment of legislation. As per the Act, WUAs have full powers to function and the representatives of WUAs should start capitalizing on these Act, he urged. He assured to take up above issues at the capacity of MLA in the government and public.

The SRSP project level committee was formed with its President as Mr. Cholleti Kishan Reddy (Former President DC, President WUA, Pothi Reddy Peta, Huzurabad Mandal, Karimnagar District). The district level committee for Karimnagar was also formed to streamline network in each district within the project. Mr Goli Surender Reddy (Former President DC and President WUA, Nanjarla, Pegadapally mandal of Karimnagar District) was elected as president of Karimanagar district level committee.
