1. Sixth International Seminar on PIM Postponed to March 2002
The sixth international seminar on participatory irrigation management has been postponed to March 2002 in consultation with the World Bank, the Minsitry of Water Resources China and the China Irrigation and Drainage center in view of the tragic events in the United States and the follow on, which has created an uncertainity on travel worldwide, and especially in the Middle East, Central Asia and South Asia regions from which most of our participants would be travelling. Our primary concern is that the seminar should provide a venue for the exchange of experiences from an international pool of participants, without any inconvenience to travel and stayl. The reivsed date for the seminar shall be intimated to all registered participants in consultation with the World Bank and the Minsitry of Water resources in China. For fruther details contact INPIM.
2. Seminar on FMIS in the Changed Context organized by the FMIS Promotions Trust, Kathmandu Nepal, April 18-19, 2002
The objective of the seminar is to share ideas, experience and information on the fast changing context of FMIS. The FMIS context is influenced by changes in local social system, national and international economic environment and natural resource base including overall water scarcity. Developments of pluralistic societyand self-governance have played their role in the changed FMIS context as well. Two factors have come out prominently: first, the necessary to undertake integrated water resource management (IWRM) so that the scarce resource is better utilized across the sectors; second, the recognition of the role of the individuals and communities for autonomous and decentralized water resource management. The recognition of the role of the individuals and communities in water resources management has brought to the fore the question on water as basic human rights.

3. Call for papers to be posted on the INPIM website.
INPIM plans to be a clearing house for information on PIM. A ready reckoner for issues relating to participatory irrigation management. We have already a large collection of data and material on the website. It is our endeavour to update the website, develop new country pages, keep the website updated on a monthly basis, introduce a new section on frequently asked questions etc.
We urge to send in papers you would like to be posted in our website or for any data relating to the countries in which you work. Of interest to readers viewing the website would be data relating to Laws and legislations, irrigaiton practices, people in action, examples of best practices, success stories, innovations in fostering accountability and transparency in the irrigation sector, benchmarking, user surveys, beneficiary evaluation of irrigation services etc. I am sure you would agree that we need to disseminate information to all interested on a regular basis.
