1. Financial Specialist, Project Implementation Unit

Requirements:
An individual that has hands-on experience helping medium-size (2000-4000 ha) WUAs develop budgeting, irrigation service fee payment tracking, water allocation and inventory software. These can be spreadsheet based or stand alone software packages, but must be flexible so they can be adjusted to met the needs of each WUA.

The individual must be English speaking and needs to have demonstrated experience working with WUAs in a developing country setting. Russian language skills would be an added benefit.

The assignment is for a maximum of 3 weeks. Assignment compensation is based on documented international billing rate.

2. We are pleased to announce that this position of Executive Director will be filled by Mr. J. Raymond Peter from Hyderabad, India. Mr. Peter will be assuming the leadership role at INPIM in Washington, DC in the near future. His impressive track record makes him ideally suited to lead INPIM during this crucial time. He holds a Masters' Degree in Geology from Osmania University and has been a member of the Indian Administrative Service for the past 15 years. During this time he has held several senior and critical positions in state government, most recently as the Commissioner of the Irrigation & Command Area Development Department in Andhra Pradesh, India. In this capacity he has been instrumental in conceptualizing and evolving the framework for Participatory Irrigation Management in that state. As a member of the Indian National Chapter of INPIM, Mr. Peter was instrumental
in organizing the Fifth International Seminar on Participatory Irrigation Management in Hyderabad, India, December 14-21, 1999. Mr. Peter will take up his new assignment from April 2000 and may be contacted by fax or phone at the INPIM Secretariat, or by emailing rpeter@inpim.org.

3. "Guide to Monitoring and Evaluation of Irrigation Management Transfer" by Douglas Vermillion. Copyright 2000, the Japanese Institute for Irrigation and Drainage.

This guide has been produced as an output of the Fifth International Seminar on Participatory Irrigation Management in Hyderabad, India during December 1999. The document can also be downloaded from INPIM's Internet site, www.inpim.org . Hard copies of the guide were mailed to all seminar participants during the first week in June. Additional hard copies of the guide are available to INPIM members upon request.

4. Thank you those who expressed your interest in the email conference on Irrigation Management Transfer. Unfortunately, due to funding problems, the conference has been postponed indefinitely. We will be sure to notify you if plans for the conference are reinstated at some future date. In themeantime, please send articles or updates to INPIM. You may share your newsor views about anything PIM-related simply by replying to this email.

5. INPIM's Newsletter #10 was mailed to all current INPIM members during early May. To keep costs low, the newsletters were mailed via Surface Mail.For those who paid for an annual membership, a renewal reminder will bemailed with the next newsletter, scheduled to be published in the next few months. Remember that we rely exclusively on INPIM members for content, so please send us papers, articles, and letters.
