African  Water Page
"The African Water Page has several  sections which cover water resources management and water supply and sanitation issues, concentrating primarily on Africa, with a  particular emphasis on Southern Africa." It is frequently updated, with news, annotated  links, documents and other information.

Andhra Pradesh Irrigation and Command Area Development Department.
Andhra pradesh a State in India, is one of the pioneers in ushering in irrigation reforms.  they have constituted 10,292 water user asociations covering an area of 4.84 m.ha. The APFMIS Act ( Andhra Pradesh Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems Act 1997) forms the legal basis for water users associations ( WUA). Andhra Pradesh has also launched a number of grass root interventions and has virtually defined itself a role model for others States in the Country to Follow.  The Irrigation and Command Aread Development Department has put up an extensive website giving detailed infromation on irrigation reforms and the irrigation sector in general.

Australia - Murray Darling Basin Initiative
The Murray-Darling Basin Initiative is the partnership between the governments and the community, which has been established to give effect to the 1992 Murray-Darling Basin Agreement. The purpose of the Agreement (Clause 1) is 'to promote and co-ordinate effective planning and management for the equitable, efficient and sustainable use of the water, land and other environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin'. TheInitiative is the largest integrated catchment management program in the world, covering the watersheds of the Murray and Darling rivers, an area of over one million square kilometres

Bryan Bruns - Consulting Sociologist
Consulting sociologist working in Southeast Asia (Indonesia and Thailand), involved in improving participation, communication, and service delivery has a number of intersting papers put up on his website.

CAPNET 
Cap-Net is a new Capacity Building Network, pioneered by UNDP,  to foster better exchange of information  and human resources development for Integrated Water Resources Management  (IWRM). Cap-Net intends to serve as a global network which operates as a  support program for regional and national networks of Integrated Water Resources  Management training and education institutions.

Canal-De-Provence
SCP was created in 1957 by three territorial authorities, Bouches du Rhône and Var County Councils and Marseilles City Council, to bring and distribute water throughout the Provence and Côte d'Azur Region, a major impediment on its development.

Canal St-Julien
On 30 July 1818, a prefectural order ordered the creation of the St-Julien Canal Association.  Canal St-Julien irrigates an area of 5000 ha serving 6500 farmers in 7 villages, and supplies water to the city of Cavallion and other municipalities.

 DSI - General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works:
DSI is responsible for construction and managment transfer of irrigation resources in Turkey.

FAO's  Land and Water Development Division
Information on the activities of the Land  and Water Development Division of the Food and  Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, including newsletter articles and materials  available to order. FAO has recently concluded an email conference on Irrigation Management Transfer The site contains a number of valuable interactions from participants.

Framework for Action .
The framework for action is a central body established for the purpose of facilitating the Framework for Action process and co-ordinating its outputs. A substantial body of work and thinking about global water concerns has developed over the past twenty years.  Read more about how countires and groups are already developing thier strategies for water at regional and national levels.

GWP - Global Water Partnership .
"This site offers an independent venue for international agencies, individuals, local communities, the private sector, academia,  governments, and nongovernmental organizations  wishing to exchange information and explore topical issues." Online "kiosks" aid searching a well-stocked database of organizational profiles, upcoming events,  newsletters, publications, and other data  resources. The site also hosts online discussion.

Indian Network on Participatory Irrigation Management
IndiaNPIM is a premier National Level NGO working towards Irrigation Sector Reforms in India, through efforts outside of Government, but working closely with Government and influencing and supporting the appropriate policy decisions.

INPIM-INA, Indonesia Network on Participatory Irrigation Management
INPIM-INA is the Indonesia network on participatory irrigation management.  Ever since its creation in 1995, INPIM-INA has taken an active part in the irrigation reforms in Indonesia.

ICID - International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage
"The Mission of ICID is to stimulate and promote the development and application of the arts, sciences and techniques of  engineering, agriculture, economics, ecology and  social sciences in managing water and land  resources for irrigation, drainage, flood  control and river training and for research in a  more comprehensive manner adopting up-to-date  techniques for sustainable agriculture in the world."

IIED - Center for Participatory Learning and  Action
The International Institute on Environment and Development offers its Participatory Learning and Action Database. "The collection, which includes more than 1,500 documents covering all aspects of participatory  approaches is mainly composed of unpublished literature, and features materials in more than  10 languages."

IFPRI - International Food Policy Research Institute.
The mission of the International Food Policy Research Institute is to identify and analyze policies  for sustainably meeting the food needs of the developing world. Research at IFPRI concentrates  on economic growth and poverty alleviation in low-income countries, improvement of the  well-being of poor people, and sound management of the natural resource base that supports  agriculture. IFPRI seeks to make its research results available to all those in a position to use them  and to strengthen institutions in developing countries that conduct research relevant to its  mandate.

IPTRID - International Program for Technology Research  in Irrigation and Drainage
The IPTRID Program has "the objective  of improving the exchange and flow of technical information and research results in the irrigation and drainage sector."

IRC  - International Water and Sanitation  Center
"News and information, advice, research  and training, on low-cost water supply and  sanitation in developing countries."

INTERWATER:  Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Electronic Network for Developing Country  Needs
Provides contact and background information  on organizations involved in water supply and sanitation in developing countries.

IASCP -  International Association for the Study of  Common Property
IASCP is "devoted to understanding and improving institutions for the management of environmental resources that are (or could be)  held or used collectively by communities."  Irrigation has been a major focus of study. The site includes searchable abstracts of conference  papers, links, and a virtual library on common  pool resources.

International Journal of Water Resources.
covers all aspects of water development and management in both industrialized and Third World countries. Contents focus on the practical implementation of policies for water resources development, monitoring and evaluation of technical projects

International  Irrigation Center, Utah State University
Offers information on courses, study tours and applied research on irrigation, including  courses on management transfer and water user  organization.

INBO - International Network of Basin Organisations.
A Network promoting basin level management  and facilitate exchanges of experiences and expertises among organizations interested in global river basin management.

ILRI - International Institute for Land reclamationa and Improvement
A non profit involved in dissemination of knowldege that facilitates the improved and sustainable management of land and water in developing countries.  It conducts regular training programs besides conducting research.  Has a number of publications posted on the website.

International Office for Water.
A French-based non-profit association comprised of 149 organisations dedicated to water resources management and protection; available in 4 languages

IRN  - International Rivers Network
IRN works to "halt the construction of destructive river development projects and to  promote sound river management options worldwide." The site reports on current  campaigns and provides access to information  resources, including the World Rivers Review newsletter and other publications.

IWMI - International Water Management Institute
IWMI (previously the International Irrigation Management Institute) "conducts a worldwide research and capacity building program to improve water resources and irrigation management through better technologies, policies, institutions, and  management." The site includes information  on IWMI's programs, downloadable reports, searchable library database, links, and  information on the World Water and Climate  Atlas. Together with other international  agricultural research centers supported by the  Consultative Group on International Agricultural  Research (CGIAR), IWMI  takes part in intercenter initiatives on water management, and on property rights and collective action.

IWRA - International Water Resources  Association .
"...connecting professionals, students,  and individuals who are concerned with the  sustainable use of our water resources. IWRA  provides a global forum for bridging disciplines  and geographies." Site includes an  annotated guide to international water organizations.

Integrated Resource Management Research Pty Ltd.
Offers solutions for integrated resource management policy,   planning, and information management

National Watershed Network
The Conservation Technology Information  Center acts as a "clearinghouse serving watershed coordinators to strengthen partnerships and help assure measurable progress toward local goals." A U.S.-oriented site  with useful information.

Ninth  International Rainwater Catchment Systems Conference
Theme: Rainwater Catchment: an answer to the water scarcity of the next millennium.  Conclusions and participants list fron the conference, held July 6 -9, 1999, in Petrolina, brazil, are now available from the conference website.

This site aims to provide a practical resource for those who work with communities (in the wider sense of the term) to help them identify and adopt more sustainable natural resource managment practices.

PIN  - Public Involvement Network
The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), sponsors this site as part of efforts to share "practical experience designing and conducting public involvement programs." This active site includes conference announcements, library, and a long list of annotated links to public involvement  organizations and practitioners.

Rio Colorado Irrigation District, Mexico
"... until 1989, the Federal Government  provided resources to operate, maintain and manage the hydrological infrastructure.  Nevertheless, resource diverting by the government to higher priority programs and the lack of participation from the users in  maintaining and managing the water districts, the system was seriously damaged, placing the  service to the users at risk. To avoid the same situation from happening again, in 1989 a  program was created to transfer the irrigation districts to the users ..." The website  provides information on the history and current  services of the irrigation district.

Rocky Mountain Institute
"Since the early 1980s, RMI has played a leading role in promoting water-saving technologies and programs, showing utilities  that it is typically cheaper to save water than to expand supply and treatment capacity." A  source for innovative ideas on water efficiency, irrigation, and community involvement.

Turlock Irrigation District. 
"The first irrigation district organized in California, TID delivers water to  approximately 150,000 acres of farm land in the fertile San Joaquin Valley. ... The district  pioneered the development of its flexible  water ordering system in the 1950s. Today, district growers receive the exact amount of water they need for their crops, usually within  48 hours of ordering it." Another of the  many irrigation districts with sites on the web.

UNDP/World Bank Water and Sanitation Program.  
The program addresses problems of unsafe drinking water and inadequate sanitation,  advocating demand-based approaches with public consultation and user involvement. Their well  organized site offers a rich source of  information on activities to learn and  disseminate lessons, strengthen sector policy  and support sustainable investments.

Includes international news.  

UWIN - Universities Water Information Network.  
A big, well-managed site with lots of  announcements, directories, databases,  employment information, discussions, searchable  index of water websites, and forms for adding  more information.  

Water Academy.
The Water Academy was created in 1993 by the French Minsitry of Environment and the French Water Agencies.  It is organizing prospective and multidisciplinary forums which shoudl be useful for water management.  The site gives a lot interesting information.

Water Magazine. 
An online magazine for water policy advice and ideas. 

Water  Online.  
"The Marketplace for Professionals in  the Water and Wastewater Industry."  Business oriented site offers news, products,  and community sections.  

Water Page.  
The Water Page is an independent initiative dedicated to the promotion of sustainable water resources management and use. 

Water Web Organization.
Advances water related issues with a focus on north, central and south America and Europe

World Commission on Dams
This independent international commission  was established to "undertake a global  review of the development effectiveness of large  dams and to develop internationally acceptable criteria and guidelines for future decision­making on dams." The site  offers a calendar of events, discussion forum,  links, press releases, and reports.  

World Bank Institute - Water Program
"The Water Program is a learning and capacity-building partner that addresses global water challenges by strengthening insitituions for better water management and deliver of water and sanitation

World Resources Institute.  
World Resources Institute provides information, ideas, and solutions to global environmental problems. Online magazine for water policy advice and ideas

WWC -  World Water Council.
"The International Water Policy Think  Tank." Recently redesigned site includes an  "events calendar, document management system and interactive links."  

Worldwatch Institute.  
Provides information for policymakers and the public about emerging global problems and the links between the world   economy and environmental support systems. 

World Water Institute
World Water Institute’s mission is to promote pro-poor water sector reforms and policy at local, national, regional and global levels for livelihood and food security

World Water Forum  
The Third World Water Forum was suiccessfully held in Kyoto, Japan in March 2003
