Promoting Farmer Networks for water sector reform in south India
The project takes the general advocacy of participatory approaches to its logical conclusion by
initiating networks of farmers in order to increase and strengthen their role in water sector policy formulation and implementation. INPIM has launched a pilot project promoting farmer networks in three South Indian States of Andhra Pradesh ( AP JalaSpandana), Karnataka ( Pragathi) and Tamil Nadu (TVNN).
The three networks are being co-ordinated by Jalaspandana an NGO registered and based at Bangalore in the State of Karnataka. The three networks since
their formation in 2004 have been actively engaged in policy advocacy with the respective governments, capacity
building of farmers, farmer-farmer interactions, identification of issues at the project,
district and state level. The Networks have been constituted by the farmers and water user associations of the respective states. Read more...
